The day when cars will be able to communicate with one another is closer than you may think. Mercedes-Benz engineers have been hard at work creating the first of its kind Car-To-X Communication and other advanced safety features on the 2017 E-Class.

Car-To-X Commination is laying the groundwork for car to car communication. The Car-To-X Communication technology connects your Mercedes-Benz E-Class to a central information resource that will provide you with in-car updates on traffic, road conditions and changing weather conditions to help you better prepare for the road ahead. Your E-Class can also report hazards so other E-Class drivers can be updated.

Two other safety features that come standard on the 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is the Seat Belt Technology and NECK-PRO front head restraints. Seat Belt Technology is arguably the most important passive safety feature on the E-Class. All seat belts in the vehicle are equipped with Emergency Tensioning Devices that will instantly remove slack from the seat belts if a collision is imminent. If the collision exceeds the preset threshold, the belt force limits a small amount of slack in the seat belts to reduce peak seat belt force on the occupant.

The NECK-PRO safety feature helps protect front seat passengers in the event of a rear collision. In the event of a rear impact that exceeds a preset threshold, the front head restraints will move forward and slightly upwards. This reduces the distance between the head restraints and the head of the front-seat occupants to reduce the possibility or severity of whiplash and other neck injuries.
